Stress is a valuable and necessary part of life. Eustress is defined as a positive type of stress which allows humans to stay alert, carry out daily functions and achieve goals. Distress occurs when individuals experience excessive stress thus causing a negative impact on mind and body. In order to help maintain a healthy level of stress you may want to try one of these tips when feeling overwhelmed.

Try taking a small 5 minute break one or more times during the day. Take a short walk outside and focus on deep relaxed breathing. If you are not able to leave your home or office go ahead and take a mini-break wherever you are at. Close your eyes and focus on relaxing your entire body while calmly inhaling and exhaling.

Create a daily task list. Prioritize the jobs that are most important and work to complete them first. Save the least important tasks for the end of the day when your energy level may be lower. If you are feeling bombarded by a huge number of "things to do" in a day, invest a few minutes in the morning to organize your work area. Discard any item no longer needed and return all other items such as files and memos to their designated space. Reducing clutter can reduce stress. Stay organized and motivated by physically checking off each item you complete throughout the day.
