Give Your Heart a Fresh Start

Angela Ramsey

Fall is a time for new beginnings. It's also a busy time with many demands; new classes, homework, family routines and jobs, sports/activities, church/youth group, and about a zillion other things. Will you be overloaded and out of control? When you look back at the end of the year, will you have chosen things that really mattered --- activities, friends, some form of success? Did you know that God gives us the perfect recipe for living life?

"...Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind...
...Love your neighbor as yourself." (Matt. 22:37, NLT)

You can only get to know someone by spending time with him or her. Spend time each day with God — talking to him, reading his word, praying, remembering he longs deeply for your companionship more than anything else. Others will be drawn to you because they see Jesus in you.

Show love to others — pray for friends, family and neighbors. Ask God to direct you to people that need more love. Be his hands and feet by reaching beyond yourself and your own group of friends. If you love others more, your life will be full and overflowing with love.

So, how will you take care of your heart? When will you do these things? Make your plan today by writing it down. Ask God and a friend or mentor to help you stick to your plan. Measure how you are doing each month. Take one day at a time.
