Can you believe summer flew by so fast? I hope you have wonderful memories of your summer vacation—of time well spent with friends and family. I also hope you took advantage of time for yourself—time to reflect upon what you’ve learned this year as well as time to plan and prepare for the decisions you will be making in the new school year 2003-2004.

1 Timothy 4:12 says "Let no one think less of you because of your youth, but be an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." May I encourage you to plan for your character development this new school year as well? Consult this checklist:

* Speech—What comes out your mouth is a result of what goes into your mind through your eyes and ears. Be mindful of what you read, watch and listen to. Does your speech build up or cut down? Do you complain and criticize or do you look for the good in all situations? Also, young girls who want to be respected must learn to be good communicators. People admire anyone who has something to say in a thoughtful, compelling way.
* Conduct—Are you living what you say you believe? Do you talk one way yet live another? People will respect a young girl who lives a godly life.
* Love—Compassion, loyalty, long-term friendships, reliability—caring for and serving others above self. Is there someone at your school that needs to be introduced, included and befriended?
* Faith—There is no better time than now to grow your faith. Many say they believe in God, but do they “believe God”? I encourage you to read a chapter or two in your Bible everyday—begin in John if you’re new at this—and be ready for God to grow your faith. It will be the most exciting time of your life!
* Purity—What statement do your clothes make about your heart? See how you faire choosing your wardrobe by looking at this Modesty Check for Women (.pdf download) from Sovereign Grace Ministries.
