With the weather getting colder in many parts of the country we are forced inside. That means fitness activities are a bit more limited so you have to get creative. When trapped inside during these cold months try going to the library and renting some crazy fitness videos like Salsa, Tae Bo, or Sweating to the Oldies. Or, hey, just turn on your favorite tunes and dance around the living room for awhile. Remember aerobic activities should last at least 20-60 min for optimum benefits. And, you should try to sweat five days a week! Getting in shape for your favorite winter sports like snow boarding, skiing, or ice skating can be fun if you start early.
Exercise for Core Strength Ever get sick of doing crunches? Well how about trying them on a Fitness Ball? Purchase a large Fitness Ball at your local Sporting Goods Store. Working on a flat surface (carpet is even better because the ball is less apt to roll away) sit on the ball and careful walk your feet out while lying back on the ball. You should feel the ball pressing into the small of your back. Keep your hands behind your head to support your neck. Using your core abdominal muscles crunch up slowly while exhaling. Return to the flat position using your abdominals to control your speed. Try 10 reps and build up to 20. Having strong core muscles will boost your performance level and make the winter sports you are involved in more enjoyable
