FAMILY FITNESS

FUN FAMILY FITNESS!

Get the Family out and moving. Here are some fun suggestions for family activities that will burn calories and make everyone feel great!

Go for a Family Bike Ride. Plan out the route ahead of time and enjoy the ride. Remember to wear helmets.

Take a Hike! There are numerous hiking books at the library and book stores that detail many local hiking spots including difficulty level, completion time, and different wild life and plants that may be observed along the way. Bring your water bottle and bug repellent!

Family Swim. Many local YMCA’s and Parks and Recs offer a Family Swim night. You’re never too old to splash around a bit.

Take a Bag of Balls to the Park. Round up that soccer ball, volleyball, football, handball, tennis ball, four square ball, super balls, basketball, and baseball. Throw them in a bag and head out for a bouncing good time. See how many different sports and activities you can do in one hour.

Rollerblade. Lots of cities and towns have paved trails just right for blading. Wear helmets and pads, and watch for those hills. Try setting up a hockey game for the neighborhood - good sportsmanship only!

Family Dance Contest. Pick out everyone’s favorite CDs, clear away the kitchen table and make room for a dance. Try country line-dancing, swing, and hip-hop just for fun. Remember those old folk dances you learned back in elementary school. Who can come up with the most unique dance move?

Twister. Bored and need something fun to do? Go buy the classic Twister game and watch kids and adults get all tangled up on Yellow, Green, Blue, and Red circles.

Nature Walks. Explore a new area and collect pinecones or tree boughs for holiday crafts. Bring old bread crust to feed the ducks, or a little bag to collect garbage. Feel good about beautifying your communities and parks.

Hopscotch Anyone? Nobody is looking. Go outside and draw a hopscotch in the driveway. Find interesting place markers for throwing, like a penny that has each family member's year of birth on it.

Remember Pogo Sticks, Hoppity Hops, and stilts? Well, they’re back! Act like a kid and get out the toys!

Power Croquette. Set up your match, only this time speed plays a role. Players only have 5 seconds to make their shot, while those waiting in line must maintain some kind of movement (jumping jacks, jogging in spot, knee lifts, front kicks, etc.) This one will tire you out!

Play in the Snow. Head to the nearest snowy spot and have a snowball fight. Bring sleds; the hike back up the hill is a killer. See how many different animal tracks you can find hidden amongst the trees.

Do you not know that you body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received form God? You are not you own; you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
(1 Corinthians 6:19)
