Tongue Piercing

Becca Bowen

Tongue piercing can ruin your friendships! I'm not talking about the fashion accessory that can chip your teeth. I mean the words that come out of our mouths that are sharp and cutting: put-downs, gossip, teasing, name-calling, spreading rumors, and, duh, sarcasm. It's like stabbing someone with words. In the movie Mean Girls, Lindsay Lohan's character called it "word vomit" when she said things she wish she hadn't. I think that's a great term for the nasty stuff we regurgitate when we spew meanness toward others. Okay, it's a little graphic, but I encourage you to think about the words and tone of voice you use with your friends and family. Are your words bitter and cutting or do they build up and encourage?

Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."
